Blood Dance pushes the limits of modern goth in their debut album

Summary
Blood Dance, a Gothic Rock/Dark Wave band from Mexico City, is a true mix of genres that blends Goth Rock with unexpected influences, offering a unique and captivating sonic experience. Recorded over four years in various cities around the world, the album presents songs that break through genre barriers and offer a fresh, innovative approach to classic gothic music. With a loyal following and recognition within the goth scene, this album promises to captivate any serious collector of gothic music.

A Rising Global Icon
Ask any Goth DJ in any city around the world if they know Blood Dance, and chances are many of them will say “yes.” You might think that a band with this level of exposure would already have several album releases, but instead, they’ve built their reputation through singles, extensive tours, and word of mouth. This is a band that has left its mark on the goth scene without the typical machinery of the music industry. Blood Dance has earned respect through its unique presence and blend of gothic music.

“Since 2019, the band has gained recognition thanks to viral memes of videos of multiregisters dancing to our songs,” says lead guitarist Asanti. “It’s funny how something so unexpected helped us find a larger audience, but really that thread pulled the underground culture around our music,” alongside a series of singles released by the legendary Bari Bari of Mephisto Walz, Christian Death, and Scarlet’s Remains. These releases immediately put international gothic scene attention directly into the hands that today identify Blood Dance within the community.

The Creation of the Album
The guitars were recorded at Café Nebula in Mexico City, a place with deep personal meaning for lead guitarist Asanti, who spent his teenage years there. Asanti not only drew inspiration from the energy of the venue, but it also became the space where he could reconnect with the roots of his musical identity. The drums were recorded in Audioformex Studios in Nezahualcóyotl, Mexico State, Suirid City, and Finland, giving the album a unique international touch.

The entirely DIY approach, along with an authentic spirit and recording processes carried out in Blood Dance’s own home studio, gives the album a raw, passionate energy. Mixing sessions became moments of family-like gatherings that fueled the social, spiritual, and cultural energy of the band. These were more than just music sessions—they were experiences that brought together the musicians, close fans, and the very spirit and soul of the music.

Finally, the album was mixed by Franck Amendola, a French producer with a deep understanding of sound, who contributed to the authentic tone and unique depth of the album. Mastering was handled by Jerome Schmitt, known for his work with the legendary band Corpus Delicti, mastering the album in Nice, France, where Jerome Schmitt completed the mastering at his studio, The Airlab.

The Sound of the Album and Songs
This album is more than just a collection of songs; it’s an exploration of dark and reflective themes that resonate with gothic music fans as well as those who appreciate boundary-breaking music. Each track was crafted to offer something new, combining haunting melodies, powerful lyrics, and soundscapes that cross genres.

Tracklist

  1. Sacrament – An unsettling exploration of desire, carried to the point of worship.

  2. No Dignity – A deep dive into the psychological complexities of S&M, examining power and submission dynamics.

  3. Walk the Night – A predatory anthem for vampires in search of their victims, capturing the chilling thrill of the hunt.

  4. Baptism in Pain – Inspired by Darkwave, New Wave, and Death Rock, this track channels the visceral and unyielding energy of Mexico City, evoking the inescapable warrior spirit of the great metropolises of the Americas.

  5. Modern Life – A mix of improvised jazz and 90s alternative rock, this track reflects on the corporate takeover of the internet and the hollow materialism of modern society.

  6. Compromise – A track inspired by Caribbean rhythms that fuses Darkwave, Ska, and gothic rock, exploring the album’s metaphor as a representation of how we relate to one another as we move through life.

  7. 13 Demons – An 11-minute song that dives into demonic possession and schizophrenic paranoia, a deep and disturbing exploration of the darkest corners of the mind. We dared to make our own Bela Lugosi’s Dead, In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida, or even Free Bird with this track, pushing the boundaries of gothic rock and song structure. Written by Asanti, it takes listeners on a wild and disturbing journey, embracing the unrestrained spirit of musical experimentation.

Each track has been carefully crafted to evoke profound emotions and challenge listeners’ perceptions of gothic music. The album fuses diverse genres and influences while remaining true to the essence of Gothic Rock. Blood Dance offers not only music, but also an experience for those seeking something new in the dark music scene.
